Getting married is a feeling that is unlike anything else, and will surely end up being one of the best days of your life. But the fun doesn’t stop there.
After a fun filled day of tying the knot and dancing the night away, it’s time to get ready to shoot off abroad and enjoy some quality time with your other half. Whether you’re jetting off straight away or waiting a few weeks, preparation and planning is the key to a successful trip.
With that in mind, we’ve decided to give some of our top tips for planning the ultimate honeymoon.
Book Nice And Early
One of the first tips you’ll need to know when booking your honeymoon is that the early bird gets the worm.
Booking nice and early will almost always get you a better deal than waiting, and ensure that you don’t miss out on the room of your dreams. Flights and accommodation tend to be a considerable amount cheaper if booked months in advance, and you’ll find that the perfect honeymoon venues will have only have room if you book ahead of time.
Waiting to book the trip until the last minute is not something that we recommend doing for your honeymoon, as it should be a trip that is planned out months in advance. Although you may be able to find some cheap deals closer to the time, it’s never worth risking it.
Choose A Location You’ll Both Love
It should go without saying, but it’s important to decide on a location that you’re both going to love for your honeymoon. After all, you’re not the only who is getting married.
We imagine that you’ve both probably talked about it quite a bit in the past, but now is the time to really think about what you want to get from your trip. Do you want to spend all day soaking in the hot sun? Is a skiing trip in the snow more your kind of thing?
There are so many wonderful different kinds of honeymoons out there to choose from, from city breaks to beach resorts to hiking trips.
Either way, it’s important to throw ideas out and decide on something that you’re ultimately both going to love. The decision making process is a two way street, so don’t be afraid to consider any ideas.
If you’re a fan of spending all day at the beach with a drink in hand but your other half hates the hot weather, you might need to compromise.
Decide The Length Of The Trip
The average honeymoon will tend to last between 10 to 14 days, but it really depends on where you’re jetting off to.
A couple who likes to stay by the pool every day may find themselves getting bored after 2 weeks, but trips filled with different activities and adventures are better spend over a couple of weeks.
People with children may feel uncomfortable spending too long away from them or might struggle to find babysitters, so don’t feel like you need to stay for weeks. If you’ve got no commitments though, why not stay for a while and make the most of it?
Do Your Research
Like with any kind of trip, it is essential that you put in the time to do some research in order to find the perfect honeymoon location.
Checking reviews from various different websites and customer feedback on social media is a very useful way to gain information about a location, and will make the decision making process a lot easier.
We recommend browsing through a variety of different hotels before settling, as you never know what else is out there until you look. Using the feedback can also give you a better idea of the quality of the place, as photos can sometimes be deceiving.
Nobody wants to turn up to a sub-par hotel with nothing to do, so be smart and look it up beforehand.
Set A Budget
We all know how costly weddings can be, so it’s unlikely that you’re going to be made of money going into your honeymoon.
Working the cost of the honeymoon into the overall wedding budget is something you need to do in order to make sure you have enough spare to book a fun trip. Leaving it until the end will likely leave you with a less than favourable budget, so work it into the budget.
Setting the budget in advance is great for knowing exactly how much money you’re going to have to spend on your holiday, having to cater in all expenses. As we’ve previously mentioned, booking far in advance can end up saving you some pennies.
If you’re looking for ways to keep those costs down, we’d recommend opting for an all-inclusive holiday. We all love grabbing a bite to eat (especially on holiday), so not having to worry about the costs will keep you well fed and a bit more change in your pocket.
Plan Around Activities
Depending on what kind of honeymoon you’re after, it could be a fun idea to plan some activities for the trip.
Looking at what’s on in the local area and highlighting some great days out is a sure fire way to guarantee some fun. You’d probably be surprised by the amount of things to do only a stone’s throw away. For example, if the hotel isn’t too far from a waterpark, why not make a day out of it?
Filling your trip with adventures will only create more memories, and who doesn’t want that?
Tell The Tour Operator You’re On Your Honeymoon
This one might be on the cheekier side of things, but mentioning that you are newly weds could end up landing you some great deals.
Bottles of champagne, rooms upgraded or even first class plane seats have all been given to honeymooners in the past as a town gift, so it’s worth a try. You never know what you might get!
Sort Out Any Paperwork
Getting paperwork in check and ready is something that a lot of people leave until the last minute, but it’s always wiser to get it sorted early on.
If you’re jetting off on your honeymoon the day after the wedding, it’s unlikely that you’ll have time to get a new passport. In situations like this, we recommend bringing along the marriage certificate just in case.
Make sure that you have checked in online and have all of the boarding passes printed off or on your phone to avoid last minute stress and frustration.
Remember Your Passport
One of the most important items that a lot of people either forget or misplace is your passport.
If you haven’t been on holiday in a while, it’s likely that your passport is buried in a drawer somewhere hidden underneath a pile of takeaway menus, but it’s important to locate it before the day of the flight.
Think ahead and make sure your passport is on hand and it hasn’t expired.
Start The Trip Off In Style
The bags are packed and you’re ready to jet off, but how are you getting to the airport?
